Thanks to Netflix – I’ve watched a lot of quirky movies I’d never go see in the theaters. Lars and the Real Girl is no exception. It has a strange premise that that gets the entire town in on it. A delusional young man falls in love with a sex doll.
What touched me most was the deep care and love for a young man with a mental illness. I was quite shocked to like this movie.
The psychologist asks, “Has there been any trauma or event lately that might have triggered this?” While the situation makes everyone uncomfortable, they all go along with it because they care.
It is a touching story that brings out the truth so that Lars can deal with his issue. Sometimes thats all that mental illnesses need – a chance to talk it out and know that people truly care, unconditionally.
