Why would I ever want to leave the beautiful state of Hawaii! We are an island unto ourselves and near perfect. The sarcasm is getting the better of me, and I need to laugh at the thought. I’m an English teacher, and I read the prompt wrong. Well, my mind twisted the words and it made me think of something else entirely.
One of my earliest goals as a child was to get off the island – island fever. So I left for San Francisco after high school. Most island kids are too comfortable to leave, I suppose, not straying very far from family. So California is the next step, or anywhere up and down the West Coast – Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, L.A. and San Diego.
What sickens me now and where I never want to visit again is Las Vegas.
I did my share of gambling and visiting, but it’s gotten raunchier (and well, I’m not sexy, rich or hot enough to party) in that city as depicted in the media.
What’s disturbing is Hawaii’s reference to that city as the 9th island. Seriously?
A lot of Hawaii people have migrated there (and I still can’t get away from the Hawaii Local culture). Why would I want to go to the mainland and see the same people that I just left? Have you seen those people from Hawaii at the slot machines with Ti Leaves for good luck? Retired Hawaii locals go regularly, like seasonally.
Even when I retire, I will not visit Las Vegas. . .ever.
Daily Prompt: Is there a place in the world you never want to visit? Where, and why not?
